New Local Domains

I picked up a couple of domains last week to slot into the Uretopia Hyperlocal portfolio.

Clerkenwell.co.uk - because it's quite an interesting part of London, so that can go in the pile with the others.

Gravesham.co.uk - Interesting one this because Gravesham is more of an administrative term for the borough rather than a place that people think of - Gravesend would be the major town in the borough that would most often be used to refer to the place. But with Gravesend not available, this was a bit of a vanity purchase since it's the borough in which Uretopia is located.

Chic Hotels - Bed, Breakfast & Glamour included

The hotel world has many different flavours and varieties to it. You get the large, international chains that give you a roughly uniform experience if you're in Paris or Peking, Dublin or Dusseldorf. The good thing about these is that you pretty much know what you're getting. The downside is that they are not very... interesting.

Contract that with the chic glamour of boutique hotels. Designer rooms, iconic styling and unique experiences are the hallmarks of boutique accommodation which is increasingly the top choice of the distinguised traveller.

It is with that in mind that Uretopia has launched a new website specifically aimed at this niche: BoutiqueHotels.co.uk

The site will carry news from the Boutique Hotel industry, reviews of our favourite hotels and editorials on locations from the UK and further afield.

Things To Do On Cottage Holidays

We've been busy lately with our cottage breaks website (www.cottagebreaks.co.uk). With the value of the pound being quite low, and of course the recession, many people are opting to stay in the UK for their hols this year.

Our Cottage Breaks website has been listing cottage breaks around the UK for quite a while, but we've started to "add value" with content on location specific pages on things to do in those areas. It's going to be a long and arduous process doing it for all the counties but we've made a start:

Town and Trail Bikes

I recently got myself a bike and after a 15 year old absence from two wheels, I'm finding out that it's not as easy as I remembered. A popular type of bike now is the hybrid bike, which combines the best of mountain bike and road bike setups to offer a bike which ideal for road riding but also gives you the option to go off road. This type of bike is known in some places as a "town and trail" bike.

We're just starting work on a new site dedicated to hybrid bikes so hop over there if you're interested in the subject.

Play It Again, Sam

Years and years ago, when I was a student, I had to do an essay about the role of the movie Casablanca as a piece of propaganda. In fact, I re-used that essay as content in one of my first websites - a film review site hosted on AOL member space.

The attention to detail I had needed to pay to that film meant I really appreciated the Woody Allen comedy, "Play It Again, Sam" when I caught it on the box one evening. And then I started getting into Woody Allen stuff and going through his back catalogue which is filled with fantastic moments.

So being a little bit of a fan, I had to snap up WoodyAllen.co.uk when I saw it up for sale the other day and have just done a little fansite with listings of Woody Allen movies and Woody Allen books.

Some classic clips from Play It Again, Sam...
